“The Literary Loophole”

Name: Chris

NYU School/College: Stern School of Business

Year of Study: 2023

Your Experience: Imagine stepping into a literature class at Stern, expecting the usual array of business-related texts. Instead, you find yourself with a book that makes everyone’s eyebrows reach new heights. The book in question? A daring choice by our professor, bordering on the controversial, with themes that had some of us wondering if we accidentally enrolled in a shock-value literature course.

Challenges Faced: The book’s content sparked an array of reactions – from disbelief to bemusement. Conversations buzzed around the classroom like a beehive poked with a very big stick. We approached the professor, seeking clarity on this unconventional choice, only to be met with explanations that seemed to dance around the actual content like a well-choreographed ballet.

Resolution: There’s been no grand resolution, but the episode has turned into a running joke among us students. We’ve started a book club, humorously titled ‘The Questionable Choices Book Club’, dedicated to reading and lightheartedly critiquing literature that leaves us puzzled.

Lessons Learned/Advice: When confronted with bewildering academic choices, sometimes the best approach is to find humor in the situation. Also, always read the syllabus thoroughly – you never know when you’ll need to brace yourself for a literary rollercoaster.

Additional Comments: This class has taught me more about the art of polite, confused conversation than any etiquette class ever could. Perhaps there’s a hidden lesson in here about expecting the unexpected in academia!
